It is merely confusing these days to think, Is it the time to plan and build for tomorrow or enjoy life now and plan later? In our age 20's, it is really confusing because we're in the middle of being a teenager and an adult, we don't know yet the realization of what life could give us. We often hear the phrase "You only live once" so what others do is to enjoy - especially the young ones. Yes that is right, we really only live once and we also need enjoyment but the problem these days is that we enjoy first and plan later. We often prioritize travelling, partying, bonding and even drinking because sometimes that's what "YOLO" means. But it’s not, that is a big mistake for somebody - to not plan early and not realize life while we are still young.
Life is full of puzzles and mysteries, it is a challenge that everyone of us needs to conquer and win. Our biggest asset is our mind and if we exercise it, It could show us the way to a better life. Realization is the first step in achieving, just as to the saying the first step to achieve your dreams is to wake up. To what I've experienced here are some realizations that awaken me at my 20's.
1. You have to be prepared to be on your own
After you graduated, I think it's time to stand up on your own and to mind your future. Our parents also need to rest from nurturing us up to this point. We also need to conquer the world with our own eyes, legs and mind. Adulthood is a rough transition. We can only just realize it on our own as we do the things on our own. This is the time we can remember what our parents told us about what life is really all about.
2. Start Investing while still young
Investing time, skills and money for yourself is really an advantage and let's you be prepared for the future while we are working yet enjoying our life. Just as having time to develop once skills that could be vital for promotion and raise, also having time for yourself to enjoy life as it should be celebrated. Investing money and saving little by little, makes you more prepared for plans in your life just as having your own house, car or starting your own business and having your own family. It also prepares us for different kinds of emergencies such as these days of pandemic, losing a job and even having a medical accident. You are saving because you want to be prepared, not seemingly you want those bad things happen to you. Believe me saving now will save you later.
3. Invest on experiences, not on stuff to show
In our 20's most of us haven’t our own family yet, own house or anything that stops us from exploring the world in front of us. We must take this opportunity to pursue our hobbies, get physically and mentally fit and gain experiences from travelling and exploring life as it should be. This is the time where our personal bucket lists need to be achieved because experiences narrates stories better than stuff could show.
4. Comparison often gives us bad emotions
It is good to practice ourselves not to compare our lives to other people, because it often makes us pity ourselves and be envious of what others have. We have to think that we run different tracks in life, their tracks are different than ours so we must focus on what's ahead of us. Just as in marathon, athletes who look less at their side and focus on track often lead their victory and win.
5. Too much at screens eats precious time
In this era of fast changing technology and internet, we often live our lives on tvs, laptops and phones than to the world around us. A simple scrolling on facebook or playing games eats a lot of our time without us realizing it and others sometimes lose productivity in everyday life that turns into laziness on their screens. When you're old enough, you will realize it's not that essential to watch every season of the Walking Dead series or Game of Thrones or missing some activity on the internet. You will wish you'd spent more time with people you love and doing what you want. Because not all moments need to be recorded or posted, we just need to be present, experience and enjoy it. So, don't let that screen be your life, spend time on what you are passionate about because one thing I assure you it is more wonderful outside.
6. Build your life like your building an empire
As to the saying life is a matter of choice, we are the ones who write our destiny. So, why don't we write our life and make it an artistry? We can build our life beautiful if we build our body, our mind, our money and to sum up ourselves. People at age 30s said when you are 30 you will thank yourself if you get physically fit at 20s because having a healthy mind and body not only makes us look great but also let us be more positive in life. It also let us be more sociable that helps prevent anxiety and depression. Our mind is our single greatest asset and exercising it can give us enormous wealth. It also applies to the world of money because how we spend money defines what class of people we are as Robert Kiyosaki the philosophy of rich and poor is this: “The rich invest their money and spend what is left while the poor spend their money and invest what is left.” So, in order for us to be successful choose how you build your life, if you want it to be simple or you want to make it an empire.
Planning is easy, 5th grade knowledge could do it, you can plan just by jotting down on a sheet of paper, your plans for the year, for the month and for the future. You can also add knowledge, skills, enjoyment and experiences you want to achieve. It is fun and exciting to do and the real benefit of it is that it gives us a glimpse of our future and will inspire us to strive harder for a beautiful life we wanted to be. It is like walking towards a tower enjoying the scenery outside without spilling the table spoon you have. Realize now and you will really enjoy your life later. Everyone could do this, just take it one step at a time and enjoy life while we are still young. I hope this makes you realize even a little that growing up is much better than just growing old.
Keep rocking, folks!
